Mythos: A Map to Myths, Metaphors, and Dreams (2020)
"Mythos: A Map to Metaphors, Myths, and Dreams focuses on the important facets of what makes us human. The book highlights the ways in which we communicate, the ways in which we see the world around us. Importantly, how we conceptualize that world, and how we put it into words".
“‘Pieces of information’ is a metaphor that reifies the noun (information) so that it can be cut up into pieces. How can we separate the noun from this metaphor? It’s a difficult task. The way we conceptualize this noun is to concretize it so that we can tease out components of information so that many pieces of information create a whole informational pie. In this way, we allow ourselves to understand when we have enough information to understand a scenario, and when we only have part of a story.
The interesting thing about metaphors is that the language is extremely literal. ‘The sky is on fire!’ is a perfectly reasonable sentence to exclaim if you’re wanting someone to look at the exquisite, red-orange sunset that’s happening. But the sky is not on fire. Rather, there is a transfer of the relevant material – the colors – so that a picture is able to be painted for the listener. But why should we find the metaphor so interesting?
The metaphor isn’t a lie, but it’s not quite truthful either; the language of the metaphor dwells in a gray area of accuracy that would never be called out for being false, nor would it ever be taken as wholly true. The metaphor’s purpose is to paint a vivid picture onto the mind of the listener in order for him or her to be able to understand better the experiences of the speaker – it provides a sensory experience through the transfer of information via literal language.”

"But we also move past language (the linguistics) and dive into cognition (psychology/physiology) of a communication. We look at core beliefs, emotions, and archetypal images that are showing up or coming through in messages. And a lot more because communication is complicated!"

Natural Language Processing and Syntactic Differentiation: a corpus case study (2017)
"The findings in this study illustrate the importance of context when studying linguistic features – within a conversation, it may be a subconscious expectation that speakers will employ simpler constructions due to working memory (WM) load; however, when reading a descriptive passage within a written work, such limitations may not apply. The results of this study can enable future researchers to investigate linguistic components specific to an individual’s written and oral speech patterns that may indicate linguistic-stylistic intricacies, unconscious conversational syntactic principles, and the process of clause embedding."
